Written & Directed by Jessica Kubzansky
World Premiere Production
Alexander is originating the role of J. Todd, the actor playing Claudio in the world premiere production of Measure Still for Measure at the Boston Court Pasadena. Boston Court’s first-ever immersive play, utilizing the entire building, will take you on a journey behind the curtain to experience the layered and intimate complexities of creating theater. In this play-within-a-play, a renowned director rehearses a new production of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure, “the original #metoo story.” But backstage, there’s an even bigger drama playing out as the power dynamics of the play and the rehearsal blow up in the course of the night. Don’t miss this unique and unexpected world premiere written and directed by Boston Court Artistic Director Jessica Kubzansky!

No Proscenium: Carving Out a Slice of Theatre Life at ‘Measure STILL for Measure’
“There’s J. Todd (Alexander Matos), who brings a highly physical performance and exuberance as a young actor portraying Claudio and through his friendship with Griffin (Randolph Thompson), a queer actor portraying the bawdy Lucio.”
Stage and Cinema: #METOO FOR MEASURE
It seems that the playwright is asking us to view the unordinary in the ordinary. One athletic young actor (the very funny Alexander Matos as J. Todd who plays Claudio) is jumping about with enthusiasm, but we look closer and wonder, Does he really not know stage right from left, or is he actually insecure and fragile?

As thrilling and riveting a theatrical experience as I’ve had in my fifteen years of reviewing (and one that makes its points without hitting an audience over the head with them), Measure Still For Measure is innovative Los Angeles theater at its Boston Court Pasadena best.
